Wiley, a global leader in research and learning, has announced its first-ever open access agreement in Croatia, marking a significant milestone in the publisher’s mission to expand access to research worldwide. The one-year agreement, signed with the Croatian Academic and Research Libraries Consortium, will begin on January 1, 2025.
The agreement encompasses 37 institutions across Croatia, providing their scholars with access to Wiley’s extensive journal portfolio. In addition, researchers from participating institutions will be able to publish open access in Wiley’s nearly 2,000 hybrid and fully gold open access journals, enabling wider dissemination of their work on a global scale.
Wiley’s partnership with the Croatian consortium reflects its growing momentum in open access publishing. The company has now signed more than 100 open access agreements with institutions and consortia worldwide, further solidifying its commitment to fostering equitable access to scholarly research.
The deal also aligns with broader trends in academia, where open access publishing is increasingly seen as a way to break down barriers to knowledge and amplify the impact of research across disciplines.
The agreement is poised to benefit Croatian researchers by providing scholars reading access to Wiley’s expansive portfolio of journals, enabling them to stay at the forefront of their fields. Further, researchers will have the opportunity to publish their work open access, increasing its visibility and ensuring compliance with institutional and funder mandates.
As Wiley continues to expand its global open access initiatives, this agreement underscores its commitment to supporting the academic community and advancing the principles of open science.
For Croatian researchers, the partnership marks a new chapter in academic publishing, offering greater opportunities to share their findings and collaborate on a global stage.
