DIGITAL CSIC, Peer Community In (PCI), and COAR have announced the launch of a new service that allows researchers at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) to request peer reviews from PCI, a non-profit, non-commercial organization providing high-quality peer reviews, recommendations, and publications of scientific articles.
With a simple click, CSIC researchers who deposit a preprint into their institutional repository can now request peer reviews and validation from the PCI research community. This service also offers a public recommendation for their preprint, further increasing its visibility and credibility.
PCI is one of a growing number of external peer review services gaining traction among researchers worldwide. These scholar-led initiatives, endorsed by major funders like Coalition S, offer a cost-free, efficient route for publishing in open access. They serve as a compelling alternative to high-cost commercial journals, providing open access at no expense to authors or readers.
To support the growing trend of overlay peer review services, the COAR Notify Initiative has been developed. It offers a standardized communication mechanism across repositories and peer review services. With this initiative, CSIC researchers can seamlessly request reviews and validation from the PCI research community with the click of a button.
COAR Notify is part of the “COAR Next Generation Project” and is funded by Arcadia, a charitable foundation dedicated to protecting nature, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting open access to knowledge. The initiative is being adopted by an increasing number of services and platforms in the scholarly ecosystem, fostering seamless interactions between repositories, preprint servers, and peer review services. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the advancement of innovative, open-access publishing models.
