CTB/McGraw-Hill launches for school-level science assessment solution -

Education assessments provider CTB/McGraw-Hill, US, has announced the release of Acuity Science, a comprehensive solution for formative assessment of science content in grades 3-8. Acuity Science assessments are projected to enable educators to efficiently measure and track student progress and deliver reports that inform instruction and support student achievement and learning.

The product contains predictive components, including one early indicator and one predictive assessment aligned to state standards, and helps educators meet science assessment requirements as outlined by No Child Left Behind. In addition, Acuity Science provides diagnostic tools to support science teaching and learning in elementary and middle school in the areas of life science, physical science, earth science and scientific inquiry/nature of science.

Diagnostic assessment items are designed with answer choices that help to reveal student misconceptions in science that result in gaps between grade-level expectations and actual student achievement. This data can be used to identify aspects of the curriculum that require additional focus in order to help all students meet grade-level expectations. Animated online items probe science understanding at a greater depth of knowledge. For added flexibility, teachers have the option of utilising the Acuity Science diagnostic item bank to build custom assessments.

All assessments can be completed in one class period. As with all Acuity products, Acuity Science can be administered online or via paper and pencil.
