SPARC has announced the appointment of Dana Alserjani as the new Education Conference Manager. In her role, Dana will oversee the coordination of logistics for the annual Open Education Conference, offering support to its board of directors and the broader community. Dana officially assumed her position on August 21.
The Open Education Conference serves as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and insights related to open educational resources, open pedagogy, and open education initiatives. Governed by a community-elected board of directors, the Open Education Conference currently operates under the umbrella of SPARC. This year's event is scheduled for November 7-9, to be held virtually, with plans in place for a hybrid conference in 2024.
Dana brings with her a diverse background encompassing education, community organizing, and non-profit work. She previously served as a classroom teacher with Teach for America in Detroit from 2016 to 2018. Additionally, Dana has been actively involved as a Palestinian community organizer and served as a summer school instructor for the I Know I Can Summer Academy in Ramallah, Palestine, in 2017.
Her professional journey also took her to Baltimore, where she was a fellow with Leadership with Educational Equity. Later, as a program director with The Baltimore Intersection, Dana designed community organizing programs that equipped youth with strategies to mobilize the collective power of their peers and communities for positive change. Dana subsequently transitioned to non-profit fiscal sponsorship, where she managed various operational aspects.
SPARC welcomes Dana Alserjani to her new role as Education Conference Manager and looks forward to her contributions to the open education community.
