David Eisner has been selected to serve as the eighth editor-in-chief of the Journal of General Physiology (JGP), effective January 1, 2020. Eisner, the British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiac Physiology at the University of Manchester, succeeds Sharona Gordon, who has led the journal since 2014.
Eisner’s research is focused on the regulation of intracellular calcium in the heart with his most recent work studying diastolic calcium concentration. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences as well as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Eisner previously served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology and The Journal of Physiology.
JGP is published by Rockefeller University Press (RUP), a department of The Rockefeller University, which assembled a search committee to identify a candidate. Candidates were invited to submit vision statements following a public call for applications and outreach to leaders in the field of physiology, informed by recommendations from JGP editors and advisory board members. The search committee unanimously recommended Eisner.
JGP publishes mechanistic and quantitative cellular and molecular physiology of the highest quality; provides a best-in-class author experience; and nurtures future generations of researchers. All editorial decisions on research manuscripts are made through a collaborative consultation between the editor-in-chief and associate editors, all of whom are active scientists. Established in 1918, JGP is published by the Rockefeller University Press, a department of The Rockefeller University in New York, NY.
