Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL) and Bowker Publishing Services have announced a partnership to support publishers in meeting global accessibility standards for ebooks. The collaboration combines DCL’s expertise in structured content transformation with Bowker’s identifier and ebook services.
Bowker’s eBook Creator Suite, which provides conversion solutions for publishers and independent authors, has been enhanced through DCL’s technology to deliver accessibility by default across all service tiers. Accessibility features such as alt text descriptions and language tagging are now included as standard, ensuring compliance with evolving requirements.
The partnership responds to regulatory changes, including the European Accessibility Act and upcoming ADA Title II requirements scheduled for April 2027. DCL President Mark Gross noted that accessibility has become a baseline requirement for international markets, adding that the collaboration builds on a long‑standing relationship between the two organizations. Beat Barblan, General Manager at Bowker, emphasized that customers should not have to choose between affordability and compliance, highlighting that accessibility features are now integrated into every package.
DCL specializes in transforming unstructured content into standards‑compliant data to support AI, analytics, discovery, and digital publishing. The company applies automation and decades of expertise to deliver scalable and accurate content conversion solutions.
