Academic publisher De Gruyter is expanding internationally and is increasing its geographic reach and staff numbers in the Asia Pacific region (APAC). The announcement of additional investments in APAC follows a recent announcement by the publisher of expansion in North America as well.
Wendy Ding, Editorial Director, China and Director APAC Partnerships, will join De Gruyter at the beginning of the New Year. Wendy will focus not only on business development for the De Gruyter journals portfolio but also on key partnerships in China and across the APAC region. Wendy joins De Gruyter from Taylor & Francis, where she was most recently Head of Research Services and Networks. She is based in Beijing and will report to Lyndsey Dixon, Global Journals Director and Vice President, APAC Partnerships, who joined De Gruyter in September, and who is based in Hong Kong.
In Singapore, Steven Chong has joined De Gruyter as Sales Director, APAC, from Springer Nature, where he was most recently responsible for APAC journals (hybrid and open access) and book marketing and for securing submissions from authors in the region. Steven will focus on extending De Gruyter’s reach and footprint, working with new and existing customers to make both De Gruyter and partner content on degruyter.com more widely available to researchers.
Steven will succeed Tony Ng at the end of the year. Tony Ng has been instrumental in building De Gruyter’s business over the past 6 years. He will be retiring from De Gruyter at the end of 2019.
Lervinia Swee, Marketing Manager, APAC has also recently joined De Gruyter and is responsible for all marketing activities in the APAC region. She will be working closely with Sales and Editorial colleagues from around the world not only to ensure that stakeholders in the region are well-informed about De Gruyter products and services but also to ensure that activities in APAC inform global marketing. This is a new position at De Gruyter and its creation reflects the commitment to APAC. Lervinia is based in Singapore.
De Gruyter’s Beijing office is expected to grow in 2020 with additional editorial, sales and marketing professionals which will allow the company to better serve authors and institutional customers based in Greater China.
