DIAMAS issues international recommendations and guidelines to support Diamond Open Access -

The DIAMAS Project has released a set of international recommendations and guidelines aimed at supporting Diamond Open Access (OA) publishing, offering a flexible framework for institutions, funders, sponsors, donors, and policymakers. These guidelines, published on Zenodo, build upon two years of work and consultation with diverse communities within the Diamond OA ecosystem.

The recommendations are designed to address the specific needs, challenges, and opportunities facing stakeholders engaged in Diamond OA publishing. Emphasizing the collective responsibility for sustaining Diamond OA, the report highlights the importance of collaboration among institutions, funders, and other stakeholders to secure the long-term viability of this publishing model.

The document outlines strategic pathways to foster Diamond OA, encouraging policy alignment, resource allocation, and ongoing dialogue to reshape scholarly publishing. It emphasizes the key role of Diamond OA in strengthening positive research cultures, ensuring financial sustainability in scholarly communication, and navigating the dynamics of authority, patronage, and legitimacy in publishing.

The report also underscores the need to consider both top-down and bottom-up initiatives when implementing strategies to support Diamond OA. The recommendations are presented in a modular format, enabling adaptation to suit the needs of individual organizations.

The DIAMAS Project intends for these guidelines to serve as a foundational document to guide stakeholders committed to advancing Diamond OA, supporting the longer-term success of this publishing model and contributing to a more equitable and sustainable scholarly communication system.
