The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is collaborating with the Diamond Discovery Hub (DDH) under the European CRAFT-OA project to enhance visibility and coordination within the Diamond Open Access (OA) ecosystem. The initiative supports greater integration among European Diamond OA journals by consolidating metadata and fostering collaborative infrastructure.
The DDH, coordinated by the University of Göttingen and transitioning into a service of the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH), serves as a registry that verifies and lists Diamond OA journals. It aims to bring coherence to the fragmented European Diamond OA landscape while ensuring quality and transparency through community-developed criteria. DOAJ, which has indexed Diamond journals since its launch in 2003, contributes metadata and validation expertise to support this effort.
While both DOAJ and DDH share the goal of advancing equitable open access, their functions differ. DOAJ provides a global index of peer-reviewed open access journals across all disciplines, emphasizing quality and transparency. In contrast, the DDH focuses on European Diamond OA journals, requiring community ownership and adherence to strict no-fee publishing principles.
The collaboration ensures complementarity between the two platforms through shared data exchange, criteria alignment, and joint participation in the EDCH’s Tools and Technologies Task Force. By linking global indexing with regional registry development, DOAJ and DDH are helping create a stronger, more resilient Diamond OA publishing network.
