DOI for Scholarly Publishing wins inaugural Rosenblum Award for Scholarly Publishing Impact -

The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for Scholarly Publishing has been honored with the first-ever Rosenblum Award for Scholarly Publishing Impact, recognizing its transformative influence on the industry. This prestigious award, created in memory of Bruce Rosenblum for his pioneering work in editorial standards, marks the first joint effort by the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), the Association of University Presses (AUPresses), the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), and the International Association of Scientific Technical & Medical Publishers (STM).

The DOI system, which has revolutionized the discoverability and citation of scholarly work, was selected unanimously for this inaugural honor. Melanie Dolechek, Executive Director of SSP, praised the DOI for its crucial role in scholarly publishing over the last three decades, significantly enhancing research visibility and setting clear standards for the industry’s identification, registration, and resolution practices.

The award is the result of 18 months of collaboration across the five sponsoring organizations, culminating in a ceremony that underscores the shared commitment to advancing scholarly publishing. The governance and planning committees, consisting of leaders from each organization, were instrumental in the award's creation and selection process.

The DOI’s widespread adoption remains a cornerstone of modern scholarly communication, ensuring that research is easily accessible, cited, and preserved for future generations.
