Dr. Alejandro Montenegro-Montero has been appointed as the Editor in Chief of Health Science Reports, starting in January 2019. Dr. Alberto García-Basteiro has joined him as the Co-Editor in Chief. The new editors follow Dr. Charles Young, who was Editor in Chief since launch, under whose leadership the journal has had a successful initial stage and has maintained a consistent commitment to providing an excellent service to the medical and health science community. Dr. Young will remain as a member of the journal’s Strategic Advisory Board, and will continue to lead Clinical Case Reports, an open access journal also published by Wiley.
Dr. Alberto Garcia-Basteiro currently coordinates the TB research unit at the Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (CISM), Mozambique and at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) in Barcelona, Spain. During his medical specialisation, he participated in different research projects and clinical trials in poverty-related diseases. Tuberculosis research at CISM and ISGlobal currently involves several large observational studies and clinical trials which contribute to the development of new tools to fight TB, in particular new diagnostics evaluations and drug clinical trials.
Dr. Garcia-Basteiro's interests include the study of the burden of TB disease in different vulnerable populations and characterisation of the disease at multiple levels, including clinical, microbiological, and social aspects. Since 2012, he has served as a lecturer at the Masters of Global Health organised by ISGlobal and the University of Barcelona. He has received several prizes, including the 2017 Union Young Scientific Prize awarded by the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, and the Enrique Najera Young Epidemiologist Award by the Spanish Association of Epidemiology. He has published more than 95 peer reviewed articles in biomedical journals and has been a guest speaker at several international conferences.
Dr. Montenegro-Montero and Dr. Garcia-Basteiro will continue to provide the community with a rapid platform for the publication of open access medical research. The editors will strive to not only provide a good publishing experience for researchers but also create a solid relationship with authors, reviewers, and readers.
