The American Society of Transplantation (AST) and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) have announced the appointment of Dr. Allan D. Kirk as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Transplantation (AJT). The journal is the official journal of the two societies. Kirk will succeed Dr. Philip F. Halloran, who shepherded the AJT from its inception in 2001.
Kirk is a member of both the AST and ASTS and has participated actively in both organisations throughout his career. He currently serves on the AST Board and the AST/ASTS Joint Council. As an active transplant surgeon at the Emory University School of Medicine Transplant Center, Kirk's practice focuses on adult and pediatric kidney and pancreas transplants. His academic experiences have provided wide-ranging insights into the scientific aspects of transplantation. Kirk has long-standing editorial experience in high profile biomedical journals and as an associate editor for AJT.
A monthly publication, the American Journal of Transplantation is directed at scientists and clinicians in transplantation and those in other fields who wish to follow transplantation. It publishes high quality data in organ and tissue transplantation and the related sciences. The journal reflects the field and is an agent for advancing it through critical reviews and news features, consensus documents and guidelines.
