The editorial direction of The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics (JMD) is transferring to the stewardship of respected molecular pathologist Dr. Barbara A. Zehnbauer, beginning January 1, 2015.
Dr. Zehnbauer serves the public at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA, where she is Chief of the Laboratory Research and Evaluation Branch in the Division of Laboratory Programs, Standards, and Services. She also holds an adjunct faculty appointment in Pathology at Emory University. Dr. Zehnbauer's editorial experience derives from volunteering as an Associate Editor for JMD since 2006, rising to Senior Associate Editor in 2009.
The JMD publishes high quality original papers on scientific advances in the translation and validation of molecular discoveries in medicine into the clinical diagnostic setting. First published in 1999, the Journal is read by the global molecular pathology community and reviews submissions from over 35 countries. JMD also promotes education and discourse by publishing peer-reviewed guidelines and position statements from the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), which co-owns JMD.
Dr. Zehnbauer has been an active member of AMP since 1996, serving in several capacities, including Genetics Subdivision Chair (2001-2002), President (2006), Chair of the Nominating Committee (2005 and 2007), Chair of the Program Committee (2010), and Councilor (2009-2010).
Dr. Zehnbauer's interests lie in strengthening the laboratory workforce through education of laboratory quality services and policy, defining lab practices for certification compliance, and quality improvement in clinical molecular pathology and genetics. In 2013 she was recognised by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute for Excellence in Standards Development.
JMD, which is published by Elsevier, Inc., is the official journal of AMP and is co-owned by the American Society for Investigative Pathology (ASIP). The journal seeks to publish high quality original papers on scientific advances in the translation and validation of molecular discoveries in medicine into the clinical diagnostic setting, and the description and application of technological advances in the field of molecular diagnostic medicine.
