Medical and scientific publisher Thieme has appointed Dr. Bernard T. Lee as the new Editor-in-Chief of its publication Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery (JRM). Since 2007, Dr. Lee has served as the Associate Editor of JRM. He will replace Professor Peter C. Neligan.
Dr. Bernard T. Lee is a board-certified general surgeon and plastic surgeon, who received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, and a MBA from University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Management. He is also Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, serves as the Acting Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and as the Co-Director of the Peter Jay Sharp Program for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery.
Dr. Lee’s area of expertise is breast reconstruction following mastectomy and cancer. Here, he developed a new program in Boston, using a microsurgical technique for reconstruction of a breast by applying abdominal skin and fat. Unlike previous surgical options, this method bases perfusion on the perforating vessels while preserving the rectus abdominis muscle. He is active in clinical research examining outcomes in breast reconstruction and patient satisfaction.
