The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced that Dr. Cynthia J. Burrows will assume the role of Editor-in-Chief of Accounts of Chemical Research, effective January 2014. Burrows, who currently serves as an Editorial Advisory Board member for the journal, is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Department Chair at the University of Utah.
Burrows will succeed Dr. Joan S. Valentine who will retire from the journal at the end of this year. Valentine, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, has served as Editor-in-Chief of Accounts of Chemical Research for 19 years. Valentine will assist with the transition and remain with the journal in her current role through the end of 2013.
Appointed in 2013 as the inaugural Thatcher Presidential Endowed Chair of Biological Chemistry, Burrows is a Fellow of the ACS, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has received numerous awards and honors for her research and teaching, including a University Distinguished Teaching Award and the ACS Cope Scholar Award. She has been a member of numerous editorial boards including from 2001 to 2013 as Senior Editor for The Journal of Organic Chemistry, and prior to that, Associate Editor for Organic Letters. Burrows also currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Organic Letters.
Accounts of Chemical Research presents short, concise and critical articles offering easy-to-read overviews of basic research and applications in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. The journal is highly ranked in impact in Multidisciplinary Chemistry with a 20.833 Impact Factor in 2012. The journal also achieved 42,112 total citations as reported in the 2012 Journal Citation Reports.
