Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group (NPG) and BioCentury Publications, Inc. have announced that Dr. Derek Lowe will be the keynote speaker at the second annual SciBX Summit on Innovation in Drug Discovery & Development. The Summit will be held October 29-30 in Boston, Mass., at the Colonnade Boston Hotel.
Dr. Lowe, who received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Duke University, has worked for several major pharmaceutical companies since 1989 on drug discovery projects against schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, diabetes, osteoporosis and other diseases. His keynote address, 'Shifting Scales: The Transition from Chemistry to Biology, and Biology to the Clinic,' will be given at the SciBX Summit opening reception on October 29.
The SciBX Summit will also celebrate Gaurav Sahay, M.D., the winner for the SciBX challenge on Endocytosis from last year's Summit. Dr. Sahay's solution proposes an approach that combines high-resolution imaging techniques with lipid nanoparticle-based macromolecule delivery to trace a molecule's trafficking inside a cell.
The Summit will bring together key stakeholders from academia, biotech, pharma and the investment community with the goal of creating roadmaps for solving key translational issues in important emerging areas of drug discovery and development.
The Summit is the result of a months-long process during which the SciBX editorial team convenes working groups of four to six key opinion leaders for each track. Following the Summit, the SciBX team will create a document outlining the conclusions of the Summit participants, with an emphasis on solving key problems in four fields.
This year's SciBX Summit features a world-class group of panelists that includes James Audia, Ph.D. (Constellation), Bruce Booth, Ph.D. (Atlas Venture), Art Krieg, M.D. (RaNa) and Stuart Schreiber, Ph.D. (Broad Institute) among others.
