Dr. George Asimellis, associate professor at the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry, has been appointed Associate Editor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery (JRS), the official publication of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS). KYCO is the only optometry school to have a faculty member among the select group of JRS associate editors.
The journal, published bimonthly by SLACK Inc., contains articles and reviews related to refractive and corneal surgical procedures and offers access to abstracts from the articles. JRS is the highest-ranked journal by impact factor in the subspecialties of laser refractive surgery, cataract surgery, intraocular lens and anterior segment. Furthermore, it has been considered the premier journal for refractive surgeons for more than 30 years and is the highest ranked journal in the ophthalmic subspecialty.
Asimellis joined KYCO from the Laser Vision Clinical and Research Eye Institute in Athens, Greece, where he was the research director. His current appointment as associate professor includes development and coordination of the Geometric Optics, Vision Science and Laser Surgical Procedures courses.
Asimellis is credited with more than 70 peer-reviewed original research publications, has authored seven university-level books in optics and ocular imaging, and has delivered numerous presentations in international conferences and meetings.
