The American Chemical Society (ACS), US, has announced that Dr. Janan M. Hayes, retired chemist faculty member and administrator at Merced College, Merced Calif, has been elected to the Society's Board of Directors. She will begin a three year term starting January 1, 2008, as director-at-large.
An ACS member since 1969, Hayes has served on more than a dozen national Society committees and task forces. Also, she has been active at the local level, where she has been chair of the ACS Sacramento Section, served as a councilor for the section and has worked on numerous committees.
As the world's largest scientific society, the ACS provides access to chemistry-related research through its multiple databases, peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. The ACS Publications Division currently publishes 35 leading peer-reviewed journals in the chemical and related sciences, including the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Chemical & Engineering News, the Society's weekly news magazine.
