The Board of Directors of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) has announced that Dr. Linda Moy will become editor of the journal Radiology in January 2023. Dr. Moy is the first woman to be named editor of the premier journal in the medical imaging field.
Recognized as a national and international leader in breast imaging, MRI and artificial intelligence (AI), Dr. Moy is a professor of radiology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine with additional appointments at the NYU Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research and the NYU Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. She is director of breast MRI (clinical and research) throughout the NYU Health Network.
Dr. Moy has developed robust breast imaging research programs across multiple imaging modalities. Notably, she leads a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded multidisciplinary team that identifies imaging biomarkers associated with tumor biology on 3T and 7T magnets. She has 20 years of experience in using cutting-edge functional MRI applications in breast MRI, oncological MRI and, more recently, PET/MRI. Dr. Moy co-leads an international AI team that spans five NYU Langone Health institutions. Her NIH-funded team has developed AI algorithms for all types of breast imaging modalities. They also apply deep learning MR techniques to accelerate the post-processing and reconstruction of Cartesian and non-Cartesian MRIs.
Dr. Moy became Radiology's deputy editor for breast imaging in 2017 and was appointed senior deputy editor of Radiology in 2019. She has also served on the editorial board of the Journal of Magnetic Resonance in Imaging. She has been a consultant editor for the American Journal of Roentgenology and consultant to the editor of the Journal of Breast Imaging. She was editor of Breast Oncology: Techniques, Indications, and Interpretations, published by Springer.
In addition to her work for Radiology, Dr. Moy has been a manuscript reviewer for 14 other journals. She has also served as a reviewer for RSNA Case Collection – a database of peer-reviewed cases and images – and as an abstract reviewer for multiple societies and organizations, including RSNA.
Published regularly since 1923 by RSNA, Radiology has long been recognized as the authoritative reference for the most current, clinically relevant and highest quality research in the field of radiology. Each month, the journal publishes approximately 300 pages of peer-reviewed original research, authoritative reviews, well-balanced commentary on significant articles, and expert opinion on new techniques and technologies. Radiology has an impact factor of 11.105 making it one of the top cited journals in the field.
As Radiology editor, Dr. Moy hopes to leverage multiple media platforms to amplify the journal's message and extend its global reach to maintain its distinction in an evolving publications landscape.
Dr. Moy will succeed Dr. David A. Bluemke as Radiology editor. Dr. Bluemke has served the journal since 2018 and will retire as editor at the end of 2022. In addition to enhancing Radiology's online and social media presence, during his tenure Dr. Bluemke introduced several new article features and types, including targeted editorials to better explain complex research, visual abstracts to illuminate the key findings of articles, and Images in Radiology to convey the excitement and discovery inherent in medical imaging.
