Dr Renata Schiavo appointed new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Communication in Healthcare -

Dr. Renata Schiavo has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Communication in Healthcare, a peer-reviewed journal that focuses on strategic health communication as applied to the healthcare, public health, and global health fields. She will succeed her esteemed colleague and predecessor Mario Nacinovich, current member of the adjunct faculty at Boston University and Managing Partner of the US healthcare practice at AXON. Nacinovich steps down from his role as Founding Editor, after serving in a leadership capacity for the past five years. He will continue as Editor Emeritus and will serve on the editorial board.

Dr Schiavo is a global health specialist, specialising in health and international communication and public health. She is the Founding President of Health Equity Initiative, a New York City-based non-profit organisation dedicated to building community, capacity and strategic communication resources for health equity. Dr Schiavo is also a Senior Lecturer at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, and has held academic appointments at the CUNY School of Public Health and New York University’s Master’s of Public Health program.

The new Editor brings unrivalled insight and industry perspective to the role. While building upon the breadth and depth of the work of the Journal's previous Editor-in-Chief Mario Nacinovich, Dr. Schiavo will also explore new ways to unlock the journal’s full potential and to expand and redefine its scope, in order to be on the forefront of communication issues and trends within healthcare, public health, and global health settings.

Starting from 2014, the Journal of Communication in Healthcare will add the subtitle: "Strategies, Media and Engagement in Global Health". With the introduction of this subtitle the intention is to broaden the reach, content, and readership of the journal and gain contributions from a wide and varied audience.

The Journal of Communication in Healthcare is a peer-reviewed professional journal analysing contemporary issues, theories, research findings, and evidence-based interventions and innovation across different areas of strategic health communication as applied to the healthcare, public health, and global health fields. Global in its scope, the journal examines and engages in relevant topics from a variety of country settings and across professional sectors.
