Dr. Temple Grandin co-edits new edition of Elsevier classic reference work - Genetics and the Behavior of Domestic Animals -

STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that Dr. Temple Grandin, a well-known animal behaviour and autism expert, co-edited a revised edition of the classic reference work Genetics and the Behavior of Domestic Animals along with her colleague Mark Deesing, a highly regarded livestock handling system designer.

Since the last edition of Genetics and the Behavior of Domestic Animals was published in 1997, scientists have gained a greater understanding of how genetic factors affect behaviour. The revised edition of the reference work combines this up-to-date genetics research with current behaviour research in animal science. The book benefits greatly from Grandin's extensive knowledge of animal behaviour. She is a major influencer in the meat and livestock industries worldwide and a leader in the design of livestock handling facilities.

Grandin is a professor at Colorado State University, as well as an industry consultant developing animal welfare guidelines for commercial meat packing companies, ranches and other food-related corporations.

With publishing the latest edition of Genetics and the Behavior of Domestic Animals as well as three other new titles, Elsevier has expanded its book content in animal science and evolutionary biology. Published under the Academic Press imprint, the other new book titles are: Primate Adaptation and Evolution by John Fleagle; Herpetology: An Introductory Biology of Amphibians and Reptiles by Laurie Vitt and Janalee Caldwell; and Vertebrate Endocrinology by David Norris and James Carr, publishing June 27, 2013.

All of these books are available through the Elsevier Store or can be found on ScienceDirect, a full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 11,000 books.
