Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing, US, has announced upgrades to DynaMed, its clinical reference tool. The DynaMed user interface now includes several enhancements based on feedback and requests gathered from thousands of clinical users. A simplified 'one button' Basic Search combines the browse and full text search functionality into one simple action. Auto complete on searching minimises spelling errors and increases search speed.
New linking features make DynaMed extensible to full text holdings, electronic applications and unique user groups. The PubMed LinkOut Custom Linking feature allows customers who wish to link directly from a DynaMed PubMed reference to their institution's PubMed holdings, remotely and on campus. Enhanced persistent linking enables users to link from a web page or other application into the specific section of a topic. Search Other Services, when enabled, allows users to add URLs, links and EBSCOhost profiles to their DynaMed home page. In addition to the standard URL linking, users can add the option of passing the titles of the selected DynaMed topic as a search term when the other service is selected, enabling contextual linking.
DynaMed is a clinical reference tool created by physicians for physicians and other healthcare professionals for use primarily at the 'point-of-care'. With clinically-organised summaries for nearly 3,000 topics, the tool is claimed to be the only evidence-based reference shown to answer most clinical questions during practice. Updated daily, DynaMed monitors, evaluates and integrates the content of over 500 medical journals and systematic evidence review databases directly and indirectly by using many journal review services.
