Despite the unprecedented cold weather in London, the second day of the Online Information 2010 conference was 'hot' with opportunities to experience innovations in the information arena. Key themes on Wednesday included e-publishing and e-books, enterprise search solutions and marketing through social media.
There were several seminar sessions offering tips on understanding and monetising the value of e-content, beyond the traditional measure of usage statistics. In keeping with the growing amount of experience with social networks by information providers, sessions offered advice about return on investment (ROI) from social media and social commerce.
The Library Management seminar path offered perspectives on some similar issues, but from the perspective of the librarian. Presentations included a session on how Bath Spa University has adopted and implemented the latest version of Eduserve's OpenAthens LA. Positive results in terms of both a significant reduction in library resource administration of user login problems and more usage of online resources were reported.
The Online Information conference is the largest UK event dedicated to the information industry, providing an annual meeting place for the global information industry. Attracting more than 9000 visitors each year from around the world, the event consists of an exhibition with more than 200 international exhibitors plus an extensive educational show floor seminar programme.
