E-readers to boost semiconductor suppliers market to $1 billion by 2011: In-Stat research -

Research services provider In-Stat, US, has predicted that e-reader shipments are likely to grow from 12 million units by the end of this year, to 35 million in 2014. As a result, the opportunity for semiconductor suppliers in the market will exceed $1 billion by 2011.

According to Senior Analyst Stephanie Ethier, the e-reader creates new opportunities for microprocessor and memory vendors. The processor ASP will be the most resilient over the forecast period, only declining 18 percent from 2009 to 2014. Despite significant increases in NAND Flash densities, the dollar value of Flash is seen to decline 60 percent over the same period.

Recent research by In-Stat (www.in-stat.com) has found that e-reader price points will continue to fall over the remainder of 2010, with a $99 model likely available in time for the holiday season. Overall, the average selling price for e-readers in 2010 will be $200.

Recent In-Stat research, 'The Worldwide E-Reader Market: Life After the Apple iPad', is projected to offer information and analysis of the market size, bill of materials, average sale prices, as well as an overview of e-reader manufacturers and suppliers.

This research is part of the company's Portable Entertainment Devices service, which provides analysis of the market for portable consumer electronics. These include e-readers, digital photo frames, portable media players, handheld games, personal navigation devices, digital radio, digital cameras and electronic toys.
