EBSCO Publishing databases to support environmental initiatives -

Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing, US, has announced that it is offering a diverse selection of environmental resources that can assist with environmental protection, sustainability efforts and other green initiatives. These are seen to support environment-friendly initiatives on Earth Day and other days as well.

Since 1970, April 22 has marked the anniversary of what many consider to be the birth of the modern environmental movement. Earth Day is said to inspire awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment. It has been observed that environmental awareness and appreciation are becoming more of a priority not only for local/national governments and corporations but also for individuals.

As part of its green initiatives, since 2008, EBSCO Publishing has made its GreenFILE freely accessible to researchers via their library’s EBSCOhost profiles as well as online at www.greeninfoonline.com. GreenFILE is a resource delivering information on key environmental issues. More than 53,000 institutions have reportedly added GreenFILE to their EBSCOhost profile and statistics are seen to indicate that users are taking advantage of the free resource from EBSCO. In the past 12 months alone searches have increased by 18 percent with more than 63,000,000 searches performed at those institutions.

GreenFILE is a bibliographic database of information about environmental concerns. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles seek to provide information at all levels of environmental interest. While GreenFILE is available online at www.greeninfoonline.com, institutions looking to add GreenFILE to their EBSCOhost profiles can contact Technical Support.

EBSCO states that it has expanded its resources that cover many different aspects of the environment. Researchers can find in-depth information on ecosystem ecology and environmental technology in Environment Complete. The latest research on ecology and environmental sciences is said to be available in the Biological & Agricultural Index. Energy & Power Source contains information on renewable energies and Sustainability Watch (www.ebscohost.com/sustainability-watch) provides executive decision support for sustainability-related topics such as waste water recycling, renewable energy certificates and sustainable packaging.
