EBSCO releases 2027 Serials Price Projections for libraries and publishers -

EBSCO Information Services has released its 2027 Serials Price Projection Report, providing libraries and publishers with data to support budget planning for the upcoming subscription renewal cycle.

According to the report, overall effective publisher price increases for serials are expected to range from 4% to 6% in 2027 before the impact of currency fluctuations. The analysis offers insight into anticipated pricing trends across electronic and print publications.

Key projections for 2027 include:

• Overall serials price increases of 4% to 6% before currency effects

• E-journal packages, including Read and Publish agreements, increasing by 4% to 5%

• Individual e-journal subscriptions rising by 4% to 6%

• Print subscription prices increasing by 5% to 7%

The report also examines factors influencing serials pricing and collection management decisions, including inflation, production and distribution costs, publication output, title portfolios, licensing conditions, and changes to publisher package structures. It notes that transformative agreements, Read and Publish models, and other open access publishing approaches continue to reshape how publishing costs are distributed among institutions, prompting libraries and publishers to reassess pricing strategies.

EBSCO stated that the projections are based on publisher survey responses, publisher pricing data, historical pricing patterns, and current exchange rate information.

The company noted that the report's findings are based on historical trends, estimates, and prevailing exchange rates, and should therefore be considered alongside other budget planning factors. The full report provides additional analysis, including format-specific pricing projections and the potential impact of currency movements on subscription costs.

The 2027 Serials Price Projection Report is intended to help libraries and publishers better understand market conditions as they prepare for upcoming renewal and budgeting decisions.
