Knowledge base provider EBSCO has announced that it is sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship for a librarian to attend the 30th Annual Charleston Conference on Nov. 3-6, 2010 in Charleston, SC, for the second year. Applicants had to submit a short essay that detailed how their library is 'Using Technology to Address Challenging Times'.
This year's selected recipient is Susanna Smith, library specialist, Gadsden State Community College, Gadsden, Ala. Smith's essay outlined how technology and social media help her be an effective 'one-person library' and communicate with patrons, learn about current trends and keep the library relevant.
The scholarship money awarded will be used for conference registration, travel and expenses. Judges for this year's EBSCO scholarship were Katina Strauch, head of collection development, College of Charleston; Rick Anderson, associate director for scholarly resources & collections, J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah; and Kittie Henderson, director of academic and law divisions, EBSCO.
