Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO), US, has announced that evidence-based nursing content from EBSCO is now being recognised as a way to help hospitals achieve Magnet designation. Magnet designation is awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to hospitals that satisfy a set of criteria designed to measure the strength and quality of their nursing practice.
EBSCO's Nursing Reference Center (NRC) and CINHAL Plus with Full Text are designed to support all five of the Model Magnet Components created by the Commission on Magnet. These include Transformational Leadership; Structural Empowerment; Exemplary Professional Practice; New Knowledge, Innovations & Improvements; and Empirical Outcomes.
A Case Study of Torrance Memorial Medical Center seeks to outline the challenges to achieving Magnet designation and how NRC aligns with Magnet requirements. Torrance Memorial and other hospitals that subscribe to NRC are reportedly able to create a learning environment allowing nurses to use the best available evidence to improve patient outcomes and enable the nurses on staff to create and maintain a strong professional practice.
The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the ANCC to recognise healthcare organisations that provide nursing excellence. The programme is projected to allow hospitals to promote successful nursing practices and strategies. It is said to recognise quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in nursing practice.
The Commission on Magnet created five model components in order to communicate the importance of Magnet organisations in shaping the nursing profession, as well as their role in providing quality outcomes in patient care.
NRC is projected as a comprehensive reference tool designed to provide relevant clinical resources to nurses and other healthcare professionals, directly at the point of care. Hospitals using NRC are also able to link directly to their CINHAL Plus with Full Text subscriptions via the same interface.
