EDP Sciences and Science China Press have announced the launch of Research & Design of Nuclear Engineering (RDNE), a new multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open access journal serving the nuclear engineering community. The journal is published on behalf of China Nuclear Power Engineering and is dedicated to advancing research and innovation in nuclear science, technology, and engineering.
RDNE focuses on research that supports the development of nuclear energy and related fields. As nuclear fission power generation continues to mature, the journal primarily publishes technical and engineering studies, along with practical applications in nuclear science and technology. Contributions offering innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives are also encouraged.
The journal is published under the guidance of an expert editorial board led by Editor-in-Chief Pengfei Xu of China Nuclear Power Engineering. All submitted articles are subject to rigorous peer review, with the journal adhering to COPE guidelines and ethical best practices in line with EDP Sciences’ global journals policy.
In an editorial introducing Volume 1, 2025, the editorial leadership highlighted the growing integration of intelligent technologies across the nuclear energy lifecycle, noting the increasing role of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and industrial internet technologies in improving safety, reliability, and operational sophistication within the sector. The journal positions itself as a platform reflecting the evolving interaction between digital technologies and nuclear energy.
During the initial post-launch period, no article processing charges will apply for accepted manuscripts. Volume 1, 2025 is currently underway, with five research articles already published and available online. Readers can register for free email alerts to receive notifications of new publications.
