EDP Sciences commits to advancing open science during Open Access Week 2023 -

In commemoration of Open Access Week 2023 (#oaweek23), EDP Sciences reiterates its unwavering dedication to advancing the core tenets of open science, championing the unhindered dissemination of scientific research. As a prominent European publisher established in collaboration with learned societies, EDP Sciences remains at the forefront of advocating for open access initiatives and policies, striving to continually advance these fundamental principles.

Open access stands as a fundamental pillar of open science, providing unobstructed and cost-free access to scholarly information. EDP Sciences champions this cause by primarily publishing open access articles under a Creative Commons license, notably the CC-BY license. This licensing framework facilitates extensive dissemination, allowing individuals to copy, distribute, adapt, and even commercially exploit the work, provided proper credit to the original authors is given.

An active advocate for transitioning the entire portfolio towards open access, EDP Sciences has been an early adopter of the Subscribe to Open (S2O) model. This innovative approach aims to seamlessly convert subscription-based journals into open access without necessitating Article Processing Charges (APCs).

In the pursuit of open access objectives, EDP Sciences also champions "Diamond" open access journals and books, which are free for both readers and authors. Emphasizing financial transparency, the organization annually releases comprehensive transparency reports, detailing the costs and prices for all journals published under the S2O model.

EDP Sciences aligns itself with open science by embracing the FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) principles for research data. The organization encourages authors to upload relevant data to online repositories and include a Data Availability Statement and data citations in their articles.

Continuously fostering innovations in scientific data, EDP Sciences supports database linking, enabling easier access for researchers. Additionally, the organization pioneers the publication of diverse data formats, such as audio and video, accentuating scientific communication with multimedia dimensions. Notably, Acta Acustica stands as the world's first journal to publish audio articles, further enriching scholarly discourse.

EDP Sciences ardently supports self-archiving and facilitates the deposition of articles in open repositories like HAL. Collaborating with Peer Community In (PCI), the organization offers PCI-friendly journals that recognize and leverage PCI reviews and recommendations.

As signatories to the UN SDG Publishers Compact, EDP Sciences wholeheartedly endorses the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The organization actively participates in the Initiative for Open Citations (I4OC) and the Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4A), enhancing discoverability and text mining across all journals, irrespective of their access model.

EDP Sciences offers a suite of services, ranging from online editorial management systems to article hosting and technical management. Additionally, the organization delivers journal development and marketing by an experienced international team. The successful transition of existing journals like Parasite to open access and the launch of new open access journals like SICOT-J epitomize EDP Sciences' commitment to advancing open access.

As Open Access Week unfolds, EDP Sciences reaffirms its pledge to drive forward open science, underlining the reciprocal benefits that the free and unimpeded sharing of knowledge brings to both scientists and society.
