EDS-Koha helps National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research users access library resources in easy and user-friendly way -

National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) in New Zealand launched the EBSCO Discovery Service™ API with Koha in April 2014 and is quickly finding success. NIWA sought to implement the EDS API from EBSCO Information Services into their existing Koha – an open source library management system - to minimize change to the library user experience. The integration not only created positive feedback but the library has measured a 10 percent increase in traffic of library resources.

NIWA is a New Zealand Crown Research Institute that specializes in water and atmospheric research. The institute uses a wide range of cutting edge scientific instruments for its research and consultancy. According to Gunilla Jensen, Librarian of Technologies at NIWA, the technology and innovation behind EDS were an important factor in selection process of their discovery service (https://library.niwa.co.nz/).

The EBSCO Discovery Service API enables libraries to use their own portals or website applications for a discovery user interface while making the most of their discovery solution by connecting researchers to the enhanced search features available from EBSCO Discovery Service. The EDS API offers easy integration, provides comprehensive documentation and support, and its straight-forward technology allows libraries to create a unique user interface experience.
