Elizabeth Nolan appointed as CEO of leading Optics and Photonics society, Optica -

Optica, the global society dedicated to advancing optics and photonics, has announced Elizabeth Nolan as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Nolan, who brings over 25 years of experience in publishing, sales, marketing, and strategic leadership, will oversee the organization’s growth, future direction, and its diverse range of programs and services.

Nolan has played a significant role at Optica for more than a decade, serving as Deputy Executive Director and Chief Publishing Officer before stepping in as Interim CEO earlier this year. In her previous roles, she spearheaded the growth of Optica’s publishing portfolio, which includes 19 subscription-based and open-access journals, and led the strategic planning process that has guided the society’s long-term objectives since 2016.

Her leadership was instrumental in Optica’s rebranding initiative in 2021, which included a name change and a revamped publishing and peer review platform. Nolan also oversaw the launch of six new journals and introduced several innovative services and technology solutions.

Before joining Optica, Nolan served as Senior Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing, and Strategy at SPi Global, where she developed innovative services for scientific, medical, and technical publishers. She also held senior leadership roles at Thomson Publishing Group and The Worldwatch Institute and began her career in publishing with Wolters Kluwer.

With her extensive expertise and forward-thinking leadership, Nolan is poised to guide Optica as it continues to play a crucial role in advancing the fields of optics and photonics.
