Elsevier and CzechELib sign five-year open access agreement for Czech institutions -

Elsevier has entered into its first agreement with the CzechELib consortium, led by the National Library of Technology (NTK) of the Czech Republic. The five-year arrangement provides financial support for open access publishing in selected Elsevier hybrid journals, allowing eligible corresponding authors from Czech institutions to publish without paying article publishing charges (APCs).

The agreement is described as a milestone in supporting the Czech Republic’s transition toward open science. NTK representatives noted that the collaboration would enable researchers to publish in established journals while removing financial barriers associated with open access.

• Under the partnership, participating institutions will benefit from:

• Open access publishing in selected hybrid journals for eligible authors, with APCs covered.

• Broader dissemination of Czech research in established journals.

• Streamlined publishing processes for researchers and institutions.

• Support for open science through a collaborative framework.

William Reubens, Regional Vice President of Research Sales at Elsevier, stated that the agreement would provide Czech researchers with a clear route to publishing open access in leading journals, increasing visibility and impact while reducing financial and administrative barriers.

Jiří Jirát, Head of the CzechELib National Centre at NTK, emphasized that the agreement represented an important step forward for the Czech research community. He noted that researchers from various institutions had already shown strong interest in publishing under the new framework.

As part of the collaboration, Elsevier and CzechELib plan to host a joint academic forum later this year. The event is expected to bring together researchers, librarians, and other stakeholders to share early experiences with the agreement and discuss broader issues related to open access publishing and research visibility.
