STM publisher Elsevier has announced updates to the ReactionFlash™ mobile application with a further 100 named chemical reactions to now cover 350. ReactionFlash is a free iOS mobile application that supports chemistry students and professionals with access to fundamental data on named reactions and their mechanisms, to support learning in an essential area of knowledge in the field of chemistry.
ReactionFlash was designed in consultation with Professor Dr. Erick M. Carreira of ETH Zürich. The app is designed like a set of flash cards so it can be used as a learning tool as well as a reference. For each of the 350 named reactions currently covered in the app, the 'card' shows the reaction, the mechanism and examples from peer-reviewed, published literature sourced from Reaxys, Elsevier's web-based chemistry research solution. Users of the app can also test themselves and their knowledge through the ReactionFlash Quiz.
Elsevier plans five further updates to ReactionFlash throughout the year; the next release is set to include data on a further 100 new reactions, with over 800 known reactions to be covered in the app by the close of 2016. Attendees to the 251st American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition (San Diego, March 13-17) will be able to view and demo ReactionFlash at the Elsevier booth. ReactionFlash Version 2.0 is available now from the iTunes app store.
