STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that it has become the publisher and sole owner of the journal Geothermics - International Journal of Geothermal Research and its Applications, effective January 2008. The journal was previously owned by the Istituto di Geoscienze e Georisorse (IGG-CNR), Pisa, Italy, and published by Elsevier on its behalf. IGG, as well as the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC), will remain affiliated organisations with Geothermics.
Elsevier, in co-operation with the international research community and the professional organisations in the field, will seek to build on the journal's reputation as a high-quality outlet for leading peer-reviewed research and critical technical reference studies in geothermal science and technology. The journal, traditionally aimed at scientists and academics, is seen to be of increasing relevance to industry, consultancies, governmental and non-governmental organisations and policy makers also.
The current Editor, Dr Marcelo Lippmann of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is joined by a team of three new Editors. Dr Sabodh Garg of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), San Diego, has become a co-Editor along with Dr. Lippmann. Dr Garg will also assume the responsibility for submissions from the Americas. Dr Greg Bignall of GNS Science, Wairakei Research Centre, Taupo, New Zealand, and Dr John Garnish in the UK, are the new Associate Editors for the Asia/Pacific and Europe/Middle East/Africa regions, respectively.
The recently revised Editorial Board and Advisory Board, consisting of prominent researchers and leaders in the field, will offer expert support to the Editors. The journal will continue to be available both in print and online through ScienceDirect.
