Elsevier Executable Paper Grand Challenge to improve how scientific information is communicated and used -

STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that it has launched a new competition that invites scientists to improve how data intensive research is represented in a scholarly journal article. The Elsevier Executable Paper Grand Challenge is designed to enhance how scientific information is used and communicated in computer- and computational sciences.

The deadline for submitting proposals is January 15, 2011. Winning ideas should have innovative answers to the question, how can data intensive research be made repeatable and workable within the context of a scholarly journal article?

A panel of international judges will select a number of finalists from all submissions. Finalists will be notified by February 1, 2011. Demo of the prototype/instantiation/application and a short paper by the finalists are due on May 20, 2011. The finalists will present their prototype on June 3, 2011 at ICCS 2011 in Tsukuba, Japan.

The winner will receive $10,000 USD. The second and third place winners will receive $5,000 USD and $2,500 USD respectively. All winners will receive the latest Apple iPad.
