Elsevier Health launches HESI Clinical Practice Readiness Assessment (CPRA), the first standardized tool to evaluate nursing students’ practice readiness -

Elsevier Health, a global leader in medical information and data analytics, has introduced HESI Clinical Practice Readiness Assessment (CPRA), a standardized assessment designed to measure nursing students’ clinical judgment and practice readiness.

As clinical preparedness becomes a growing concern, recent studies indicate a decline in practice-ready nursing graduates, with figures dropping from 23% to 9%. CPRA provides educators with a structured evaluation tool to assess whether students have the critical thinking and decision-making skills necessary for safe, independent patient care.

CPRA includes:

• Screen-Based, High-Fidelity Simulations – Realistic patient scenarios challenge students to demonstrate clinical decision-making and problem-solving.

• Performance Reporting – Students receive practice readiness ratings across five key areas: assessment, communication, education, safety, and clinical judgment.

• Secure Assessment Questions – Exam-style questions aligned with the Next Generation NCLEX® and AACN Essentials competency framework.

• Diverse Digital Standardized Patients – Virtual patients of varying ages, backgrounds, and health conditions provide comprehensive competency assessment.

• Natural Language Conversation Engine – Interactive tools help students refine communication and patient interaction skills.

CPRA serves as an end-of-program evaluation to assess nursing graduates’ preparedness for clinical practice. Used alongside the HESI Exit Exam, it provides a validated measure of readiness for licensure and real-world nursing challenges.
