STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of a new open access journal - Neurobiology of Stress. Rita Valentino, Research Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care and Director of the Division of Stress Neurobiology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and Yvette Sheline, Professor of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, will serve as Editors-in-Chief of the journal.
The journal will serve as a forum for original research and review articles focusing on the impact of stress on the brain, covering cellular, behavioural functions and stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression, trauma and anxiety. The translation of basic research findings into real-world applications will be a key aim of the journal.
Stress affects everyone at some point in their lives and is increasingly becoming an issue in today's society. More people are coming under mounting pressures at work, at home and in their social lives.
As a result increasing funding is being made available to conduct research in these areas and therefore the volume of publications dealing with stress is likely to continue to grow in the years to come. It is expected that the journal will help to progress basic research and ultimately develop targeted treatment opportunities for stress-related mental health disorders.
