STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced the launch of a new textbook initiative for the life sciences - called ‘Academic Cell’ - at the annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology. The first title, Molecular Biology by David P. Clark, has now been published. More titles will follow in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Elsevier/Academic Press and Cell Press have been publishing life science research discoveries via books and journals for a while now. Academic Cell, the new textbook initiative, brings together these two publishing brands. It is positioned as a line of textbooks that fully integrates the benefits of a traditional textbook framework and primary literature reflecting what is happening in research today.
With the purchase of every copy of an Academic Cell textbook, students will be able to access an online study guide containing relevant Cell Press articles. They are also given bridge material to ease them into research material. In addition, images from the articles will be available in PowerPoint, with optional test questions.
