Embracing digital responsibility: highlights from Creating Knowledge 2024 -

The Creating Knowledge 2024 conference, held from June 5-7 at the University of Helsinki, provided a dynamic platform for exploring digital responsibility in today’s information landscape. With the theme “Think Before You Click: Responsibility in the Digital Information Landscape,” the event delved into crucial topics such as digital literacy, AI in education, and open education practices.

OpenAIRE played a pivotal role in the conference, aligning its mission to promote Open Science and responsible digital practices with the event’s focus. Key to their presentation was the demonstration of OpenAIRE’s tools and services, including the OpenAIRE Graph, which supports researchers and institutions in embracing Open Science principles.

One of the standout features of the conference was the "Treasure Hunt in OpenAIRE CONNECT" workshop, co-led by Alessia Bardi and Giulia Malaguarnera. This interactive session captivated participants by guiding them through the OpenAIRE CONNECT service, a tool designed to aggregate research outputs from various sources into a single, accessible entry point.

The workshop highlighted the importance of discovering, reviewing, and studying scholarly research publications as integral to the research life-cycle. It emphasized that the Open Science vision accelerates research progress by sharing and examining not only research publications but also other critical research products such as datasets and software. These resources are essential for reproducing science, implementing knowledge, and fostering innovation.

Participants engaged in hands-on activities using OpenAIRE CONNECT’s search functionality and tools. They explored filters, keywords, and advanced search features to gain a deeper understanding of how Open Science practices can be implemented and monitored effectively. This interactive approach provided valuable insights into the technical capabilities that support research communities and enhance academic positions.

Creating Knowledge 2024 offered a comprehensive platform for discussing and promoting digital responsibility. OpenAIRE’s contributions significantly enriched the dialogue on Open Science, with interactive sessions fostering deeper engagement and practical understanding of navigating the digital information landscape responsibly.

The conference, organized by NordINFOLIT—a Nordic network dedicated to information literacy in higher education—served as a significant forum for advancing discussions on digital literacy and Open Science. The biennial event continues to play a crucial role in shaping the future of information literacy and digital responsibility in academia.
