Emerald, ALCS announce grant for engineering research in Africa -

Academic and professional literature publisher Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, UK, and the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS), in association with International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) and the African Engineering Education Association (AEEA), have announced a grant for the development of mathematical research in engineering disciplines in Africa. The funding grant of up to $4,962, will address the dissemination of knowledge for social good with a specific focus towards the benefit of Africa.

This award will be formally launched at the 4th African Conference on Engineering Education, to be held in Dar es-Salaam, Tanzania, from April 22-25, 2008. In addition to the research grant, the winner will have the opportunity to receive the assistance of an experienced Emerald editor or former editor to help them write a high quality article which has a high chance of getting accepted for publication.

To be eligible at least one member of the research team must be based in Africa. Each application will be judged by a panel of experts on the criteria that research must be of significance, particularly illustrating how it will benefit the social good; demonstrate originality and innovation; make an outstanding contribution to theory and its application; illustrate the appropriateness and application of the methodology; and demonstrate sound implications for theory and practice.

All entries should be submitted on or before December 1, 2008. While the initial short-list will be completed by January 2009, winners will be announced in February 2009.
