Academic and professional literature publisher Emerald
Group Publishing Ltd., UK, and The Authors' Licensing and
Collecting Society (ALCS), in association with the International Network for the Availability of Science
Publications (INASP) and the African Engineering Education Association (AEEA), are offering a research
grant to fund an African project in the field of engineering research. The funding grant of up to £
2,500, will address the dissemination of knowledge for social good with a specific focus towards the benefit of
Africa.
To be eligible at least one member in each research team must be based in Africa.
Applications should focus on the subject of material sciences. Each application will be judged by a panel
of experts according to a set of criteria such as the significance of the research and its originality.
Also, in line with Emerald's publishing philosophy of 'Research You Can Use', projects should make an
outstanding contribution to theory and its application in the field of engineering research.
Last year Emerald received a number of high-quality submissions. The winning research proposal was:
'Model-eliciting activities in Uganda as a bridge between engineering and mathematics education',
by Dr Eric Hamilton (Pepperdine University, California, USA), in conjunction with Christopher Muwanguzi
(Makerere University, Uganda), Simon Katabazi, Connie Dobbs and Tony Muwanguzi (all New Hope, Uganda).
All applicants must submit their proposals before February 1, 2010. The submission form is available online at
