Academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing has joined the 'Access to Research' initiative. Led by The Publishers Licensing Society, the scheme brings together UK publishers and librarians to make over 1.5 million academic articles freely accessible to the British public.
The two-year pilot was set up in response to recommendations from the Finch Group, a committee convened by the UK government to explore how access to publicly funded research could be expanded.
'Access to Research' aims to provide the public, students in further education, independent researchers and small businesses with the ability to discover a world of global academic research. In joining the scheme, Emerald has made a number of its Business and Management, Library and Information Science journals freely available to participating libraries.
Emerald is currently one of 17 leading UK publishers collectively offering free content across a range of disciplines.
