Emerald Publishing names eminent economist team to edit new journal, The Journal of Participation and Employee Ownership -

Academic publisher Emerald Publishing has announced that the newly launched Journal of Participation and Employee Ownership (JPEO) will be edited by Richard B. Freeman, holder of the Herbert Ascherman Chair in Economics at Harvard University, and, Takao Kato, W.S. Schupf Professor of Economics and Far Eastern Studies at Colgate University.

JPEO is the first leading forum for new economics of participation, economic analysis of new participatory work practices and shared capitalism. It is the only mainstream journal for rigorous research on shared capitalism, employee ownership, profit sharing, gain sharing, and broad-based stock option.

JPEO is seeking to publish high quality research on original empirical and theoretical research in the broad area of employee participation and shared capitalism. Aimed at academics in economics and other relevant disciplines (e.g. human resource management, industrial psychology, sociology of work, political science, public policy analysis) and research-oriented practitioners and policymakers, the title will publish 15 papers across 3 issues from 2018, which will be made freely available throughout 2018 to allow greater visibility of authors' work.

The title welcomes methodological diversity, from theoretical economic modelling to sophisticated statistical analysis of observational data to experimental data analysis including both lab and field experiments to institutional and qualitative analysis.

Richard Freeman is currently serving as Faculty co-Director of the Labor and Worklife Program at the Harvard Law School, and is Senior Research Fellow in Labour Markets at the London School of Economics' Centre for Economic Performance. He directs the National Bureau of Economic Research / Sloan Science Engineering Workforce Projects, and is Co-Director of the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities.

Takao Kato is W.S. Schupf Professor of Economics and Far Eastern Studies at Colgate University. He is also Research Fellow, IZA-Bonn; Research Associate, CJEB (Columbia Business School) and CCP (Copenhagen Business School and Aarhus University); Faculty Fellow and Mentor, SMLR (Rutgers); Research Fellow, TCER-Tokyo; and Senior Fellow, ETLA (Helsinki). Kato pioneered the econometric analysis of employee participation and innovative work practices of Japanese and Korean firms. While continuing to work in this area, he has also been studying corporate governance, executive compensation, and promotion tournament in Japan, Korea, China, and Denmark.

In addition, JPEO is endorsed by the Fellowship Program on Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing at the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University, as well as the International Association for the Economics of Participation (IAFEP).
