The IFLA Environment, Sustainability, and Libraries Section (ENSULIB) has released Libraries Driving Education for Sustainable Development, a new open-access volume that explores the role of libraries in advancing UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) agenda. The publication is part of the IFLA Publications Series and is supported by funding from the IFLA Professional Council.
The book emphasizes the contributions of green and sustainable libraries as partners in promoting national sustainability goals. It aligns with the Berlin Declaration on ESD and features innovative, informal education projects led by libraries worldwide.
Divided into three parts, the book first provides a general overview of ESD topics and programs, followed by case studies from public and school libraries. The final section highlights academic library practices and examples from library and information science education.
Edited by Petra Hauke, Antonia Mocatta, and Priscilla Nga Ian Pun, the 452-page volume is published by De Gruyter and available under an open access license. This is the fourth book in ENSULIB’s publishing project, following earlier titles on green library practices and sustainable strategies in library infrastructure.
