Entries for The BMJ Awards 2017 are now open with a range of exciting categories designed to recognise excellence in medical practice. The BMJ Awards, now in their 9th year, are the UK's leading medical awards programme, recognising and celebrating the inspirational work done by healthcare teams across the country.
Entries will be judged by distinguished panels that include expert patients, and winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on May 4, 2017.
This year, there are 15 awards up for grabs, including three new categories for imaging, surgery, and mental health. These will join firm favourites, such as those for primary care, cardiology, cancer, education and innovation.
The BMJ Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 will once again honour someone who has made an outstanding contribution to improving health or healthcare and whose career has had considerable influence outside as well as within the UK.
Past recipients have included Dr Bernard Lown, a cardiologist and Nobel Prize winner who also developed the defibrillator, and Professor Marleen Temmerman for her commitment to improving women's reproductive and sexual health and rights, especially in Africa.
