Academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing has announced that the journal formerly known as Ethnicity and Inequalities in Health and Social Care, will be re-launched as the International Journal of Human Rights in Healthcare (IJHRH) from the first issue of 2015. The title change reflects the journal's new positive focus of promoting equality of treatment and access to health and social care, and also expands the scope of the journal to explicitly cover all aspects of potential discrimination in healthcare.
Dr Theo Gavrielides, Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University, Founder and Co-Director of Restorative Justice for All, serves as the Editor of the journal.
The journal will retain its unique practical approach to promoting equality, inclusion and human rights in health and social care by publishing scholarly research and practice-focused articles and case studies which explore what is currently known about discrimination and disadvantage with a particular focus on health and social care; push the barriers of the equality discourse by identifying new avenues for practice and policy; create bridges between policymakers, practitioners and researchers; and identify and understand the social determinants of health equity and practical interventions to overcome barriers.
The journal is a valuable source of information for researchers and academics internationally, students, practitioners, managers, policy-makers, NHS Trusts and commissioning bodies in the UK and abroad, local authorities, social workers, psychologists, nurses, voluntary sector workers, service users and carers.
To mark the journal's new direction and name, the Editor is calling for papers for a special issue on 'Human Rights Revisited: Tackling race inequalities in health and social care' to publish in 2015. Submissions must be received by January 1, 2015.
