CABI and the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) have announced that the European Journal of Horticultural Science (eJHS) will be renamed the Journal of the International Society for Horticultural Science (JISHS) beginning January 1, 2027. The change reflects the journal’s expanded scope and international reach.
In 2024, the scope of eJHS was broadened to include all climates and to emphasize cross‑disciplinary global horticulture. Renato Paiva, Editor‑in‑Chief, noted that the journal attracted submissions from a wide range of countries in 2025 and explained that the new name better represents the journal’s content and development.
The journal’s history dates back to 1929, when it was launched as Die Gartenbauwissenschaft, a German‑language publication of the German Society for Horticultural Science. In 2003, it became the European Journal of Horticultural Science and transitioned to English. In 2014, the ISHS acquired the journal, establishing it as the official publication of the society.
Yao‑Chien Alex Chang, ISHS Board Member for Publications, stated that while the journal originated in Europe, the new title reflects ISHS’s global membership and the diverse nature of the horticultural community.
Preparations are underway to update publishing services and platforms to reflect the new name while maintaining continuity with the previous title. A dedicated JISHS website is being developed within the CABI Digital Library. The journal will continue publishing during the transition, with articles appearing under the new title from 2027.
