On 10 June 2022, after a comprehensive consultation, the Council of the European Union (EU) reached a set of conclusions on implementing Open Science and research assessment.
The Council called on the EU Commission to work on an improved regulatory framework for unimpeded access to and reuse publicly funded research. It stressed the importance of transparency in services and fees and explicitly supported rights retention for researchers. Furthermore, the Council noted the need for more reproducible research results to build public trust and evidence-informed policymaking.
