Evert Verhagen appointed as new Editor-in-Chief for BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine -

Evert Verhagen, a human movement scientist and epidemiologist, has been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine, one of more than 70 specialist journals published by BMJ.

Verhagen will take up his post in January 2021, succeeding Emmanuel Stamatakis who has been Editor-in-Chief since February 2019.

Verhagen is currently Professor of Epidemiology of Sports, Exercise & Health at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre in Amsterdam. He is also the director of the Amsterdam Institute of Sport Science and the Amsterdam Collaboration on Health & Safety in Sports. Verhagen has been a Senior Associate Editor at the journal’s sister title, the British Journal of Sports Medicine, since 2012.

Verhagen, through his innovative style and original ideas, will build on the foundations laid by his predecessor.
